30942AXC1948 Sydney NSW  Engine is completely seized and it looks like it's been buried in a river  bank, sump is full of dirt and everything looks badly rusted inside Pulled the side cover off and found a broken connecting rod, so it looks  like the engine has failed and it's probably been  discarded onsite or it's   been through a flood. Picked this up on ebay in 2006 from Griffith. The  guy had bought it to restore with his kids but decided not to and sell  instead. Sold  this and engine 31071 together with a centrifugal irrigation   pump. Looks like this engine and the pump were bought at an auction as a  single lot, not sure about 31071.

31071AXC1949 Crank shaft turns OK and the engine looks reasonably clean. When I pulled the covers off it looks like the engine had run out of oil, and melted  the  white metal bearing. Connecting rod has loosened up enough on crank to  give sufficient free play for the end cap to collect on the crank and rip  it off. Piston has fallen down and as the crank has turned  it's collected  the connecting rod and smashed the bottom of the piston up to the pin. Able to save compression rings though. Picked this up on ebay in 2006 from  Griffith. The guy had bought it to restore with his kids but decided not  to and sell instead. Sold this and engine 30942 together with a  centrifugal irrigation pump.

38890AXC1951 Sydney NSW Brought this in 2005 off a friend who was moving to Brisbane. He brought  it off someone down in the Snowys. Apparently it had been used on the  Snowy Hydro Scheme (my guess is probably one of the work camps). Engine  was seized but was fairly good shape. Dismantled most of it, cleaned it up  and put it back together. Piston came out fairly easily, but one ring shattered as I was freeing it from it's slot. Had magneto overhauled with new bearings, clean up and a magnet recharge. Engine started on second  crank - probably would have gone first crank if I'd remembered to turn the  on the fuel on the carby! Recovered second compression ring and magneto cover from engine 31071.
